You can save time by creating preference lists, which limit what you see when you search for medications and procedures. The orders you place most frequently should be as accessible as possible. If you place a particular order as frequently as the orders on your preference list, consider adding it to your list.

 

You can view your orders from order entry and the Preference List Browser.


  1. Path: Epic button ocean_arrow_sm.gif Tools ocean_arrow_sm.gif Preference List Composer
    The Preference List Selector window opens.

  2. Deselect the Show inpatient preference lists checkbox.

  3. Highlight the section where you want to add your order.
    Click Edit.
    The Choose Contact window opens.

  4. Click Accept.

  5. Click button_-_New_Section.jpg to open the New Section dialog box.

    In the Display name field, enter in a name (e.g., Diabetes orders)

  6. Click Accept.

  7. Click button_-_New_Item.jpg.
    The Preference List Composer opens.

    Search for an order in the Orderable field.
    [Optional: Use the Display name field to give your order a name as you would like it to appear in Hyperspace.

  8. Set the defaults for your order, such as frequency, status, priority, specimen source, etc.
    [Note: Select Future as the Status.]

  9. When you are finished, click Accept.
    The Preference List Composer window closes and your item is added to your preference list.

Repeat steps 1-9 to add additional items to your preference list.
